60 Days!

Just a quick blog update. As of yesterday, I’ve gone 60 days without any yarn purchases.

The last time I did this “cold sheep” thing, I made it a little over a year without buying any yarn. That was in April of 2015. Since then, there has been way too much added to the yarn bins. My goal is go at least another year. Let’s see how that goes, shall we?

  1. Good for you! Wish I could say the same since I have so much yarn. I keep getting seduced by the patterns on Ravelry and never seem to have just the right yarn. I need to step away from the computer and tend to my knitting!

  2. Keep on that path! I haven’t bought yarn in over a year, but for an unhappy reason…my left thumb tendon is compromised by knitting so I’ve had to stop, hopefully temporarily. It’s been almost a year and a half and I miss knitting, but I’ve started quilting and sewing again, and I can still needlepoint and cross stitch. My daughter is already eyeing my stash, but I’m not ready to give it up entirely. Floors all done?

  3. Doing good. I’m thinking that I haven’t bought any yarn since last fall. And, I have managed to give away almost 3kgs. Does that count?

  4. Impressive! Especially considering you were on a vacation. I seem to be tempted either by yarn stores where I visit, or by getting something before I go “because it’s vacation” …

  5. Now that I have purchased brain hat yarn, I will be happy to join you in going Cold Sheep. I did an inventory over the holidays and discovered I have 60-odd pairs of unknit socks and 30-odd unknit shawls. The hardest part will be resisting yarn purchases for baby gifts.

  6. Best wishes! I’m still doing Mellow Merino around here. I bought yarn this week because I am doing Loopy Academy, but the last time I bought yarn before that was in September – again for Loopy Academy. I also bought some Madelinetosh EuroSock this week from MT because they brought back the color Kale for a TBT and I’ve been lusting after that color for a while. I want to make a Featherweight Cardigan. That’s all I have planned to buy for the foreseeable future.

  7. Many, many, too many years ago, I worked in a Methadone clinic. We saw that the most of the few clients who successfully detoxed, depended on something else in their lives – work, religion… Thinking it works similarly for yarn, which I haven’t bought for years now (having a stash more than a lifetime long). But, I have now accumulated hundreds of colours of paint, pencils, pastels…Can’t get enough.
