Remember this?
Langsjal Jóhönnu! I knit that in 2008, then had it stolen on an Alaska cruise the following year. I’ve always planned to reknit it someday. Well someday is now. Never mind that I already have a bunch of knitting projects going, including two other lace shawls.
Here’s the yarn:
The wool is Icelandic lace, Lodband Einband. I used this for the first one as well, just in a different color. This is a deep ruby red, and I have seven skeins of it, enough to make a huge shawl.
After some dithering around, I managed to get the pattern scanned, saved as a pdf, and uploaded to Knit Companion and set up. The original pattern book is in Icelandic, which of course I can’t read. It comes with a very abbreviated English translation. My project notes from the first time around will help tremendously in getting this thing started.
That’s the project photo from the book. There are 25 shawl patterns in this book, and that woman has the same “don’t fuck with me” expression in every photo. There are several other gorgeous shawls here that I’d love to knit.
You’re probably going to feel it’s much simpler this time around. I think it will be gorgeous!
Oh, I have that book, puchased in Iceland. I dont remember any English at all. Smart to have made notes the first time through!
I hope it will go much faster for you the second time around. I’m knitting a Gehry for my daughter after having knit one for myself a couple of years ago. It’s flying; much faster than the first time even though I don’t remember anything about it. I still am shocked that anyone would steal a hand knit.
I have that book and love it. Great idea to re-knit! It will be worth it.

I remember when your purple one was stolen. Maybe, you should have been walking around the ship with that same expression on your face…
You go girl! The red is going to be outstanding-good for you for remaking the shawl. I so well remember that ugly incident on your cruise-hope the stolen one is a felted mess now!
How wonderful you can knit another one! I’m sure it’ll go faster the second time around … and maybe you should adopt that DFWM look when you wear it to discourage thieves 😉
