Blogiversary!

And I almost missed it, imagine that. Actually I started a post earlier today. WordPress has been nagging me to upgrade to the newest version for a while now, so I went ahead and clicked the button that said “OK, already, upgrade me and quit bugging me”*. Then I went to the blog to check to make sure everything happened like it should, and on first glance, it did. Then I noticed that all the little things that you click on,ย  like the words that should tell you to “comment here” were in German. Um, right. Turns out there’s also a new version of the theme that I use, which is by a German web designer. It ended up taking me the better part of a beautiful spring day to get it fixed. By that time I was done blogging.

Now I’m back, and no longer in a blog-induced snit. I think I’ve fixed stuff, but if you notice weirdness, let me know.

Six years. That’s how long I’ve been doing the knit-blog thing. I started a knitting journal on the computer several months prior to that, then just decided one day to do it. I have to say it’s been a nearly life-transforming experience. I’ve learned so much about knitting, about “computering”, and about writing. I’ve met some incredible people, both in real life and “imaginary”. I’ve shared food stories, travel stories, and just stories about life in general. You’ve all learned about my foibles, my inability to drink and knit at the same time, and about my inability to walk and drink at the same time. You’ve all perhaps perceived that I’m one of the slowest knitters on the planet, but that I make it up in enthusiasm for each new project.

I haven’t been posting much over the past year, but it’s been a challenging year of transition in many ways. Most of it is work-related, which I can’t really write about here. That has gotten immeasurably better with the new job, though it’s been a process getting there. I hope you will all stick with me, since I have no intention of giving up the blog just yet. I have a bunch of stuff to show you, both spun and knitted, so hang in there! Thanks for reading, commenting, and being friends!

*Well, it really didn’t say that, but you know what I mean.

Blogiversary! — 37 Comments

  1. Happy blogiversary! It’s been such a pleasure to read you, share your exploits, meet you. I so remember when you and I were recuperating in tandem. Love having you here in the blogiverse.

And you DON’T have the title of slowest knitter. That would be me.

  2. Happy Blogiversary! Six years. It’s hard to believe. Time sure flies when you’re having fun. Here’s to many more years. Happy knitting –

  3. Happy Blogiversary! We’re practically blog twins — and I couldn’t agree with you more about how it’s affected my life.

  4. Congratulations on the blogiversary!! I started reading your blog about the time you so graciously (not gracefully) demonstrated your inability to walk and drink at the same time! I can’t believe that was 5 years ago! Looking forward to many more.

  5. Happy Blogiversary! I’m so glad you have come into my life. Who ever thought blogging would change our lives in such ways?? I, too, have met some wonderful people and branched out in ways I never thought I would. I’m SO looking forward to our spinning weekend. Counting down the days.

  6. Happy Blogiversary! I always enjoy reading about what you have been doing and seeing your knitting projects.

    Hears to many more years!!!!

  7. Happy Blogiversary!

(We are moving to the Seattle area sometime this year…would you mind answering a few questions?)

  8. Happy Blogaversary! I’ve enjoyed your blog for the last 5 years (I missed my own 5 year anniversary in January – doh!) Your blog was one of the very first that I started to read and it’s been such an inspiration!

  9. Happy blogiversary!!!

WordPress secret: Rename your theme so that it isn’t automatically updated, if your theme is one of those included in the WP install. If it’s named something else, it won’t get touched during upgrades. I learned the hard way, too. ๐Ÿ™‚

  10. Froeliche Blogtag! Und vieles mehr! Does this fit your theme?
I love your blog too, but you are very mistaken about who is the slowest knitter. No one is slower than I am. Joanna

  11. I so enjoy reading your blog. I am amazed at some of the lace projects that you make and I can’t believe that you never knit a circular shawl before. I do agree that the cast on was a little tricky. I started a Shetland Tea Shawl in January of 2009 that I used that cast on for. Unfortunately the shawl still isn’t done but I am on the last chart.

  12. Gesundheit! (Get it, ’cause of the reference to German. Oh never mind …)

Happy Anniversary! I for one would greatly miss you if you stopped blogging.

  13. Happy Blogiversary! I haven’t been around here very long but I look forward so much to each new post. In fact, it’s because of you (yes, YOU!) that I decided to start my own blog. I am learning new things…such as discipline in writing on a regular basis…that I wouldn’t have if I hadn’t started blogging. And I owe it all to you…. Thanks! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  14. Happy Blogiversary! You are not the only knit blogger posting a lot less over the course of the past year. It seems that most of the bloggers I follow have reduced the number of posts. I’m just amazed at the number of interesting posts – & to continue for several years WOW! And I think I may well be a lot slower than you as a knitter. I’d get more done if I stopped playing computer games & following the news on my iPhone!

  15. Congratulations! I’ve not been blogging much this past year either–life sometimes gets in the way. Hang in there, I enjoy following your adventures.

  16. The reason I haven’t changed my layout since I started my blog is cause I’m afraid worse than that will happen. Yes there are many things that would make it better, but I’m afraid of what will be lost along the way.
But as long as you keep posting, no matter how many or how few, I’ll be here to see what you are up to.

  17. Yours was one of the very first blogs that I found 6 years ago – it’s how I discovered blogs existed!
Thank you Lorette, for all the time/energy you have put into making your wonderful blog!

  18. Happy 6th blogiversary! Your blog is always such a joy to read. Thank you so very much for sharing your adventures in knitting & living with us!

  19. Happy blogiversary! I for one love to see your posts. So I’m sticking with you!!! All the best!

  20. Heppy Blogiversary! I found you a few years ago and enjoy your blog very much! So here’s to more knitting, spinning, drinking, travel, etc… ๐Ÿ™‚

  21. Happy blogiversary. I’ve been reading and enjoying your blog for about three years now. And I don’t think you’re the slowest knitter on the planet. At least you don’t subscribe to the two steps forward, one step back process that seems to capture my best efforts!

  22. Happy belated blogiversary wishes! I love your blog. All the best for the upcoming year!
