Happy New Year!

I hope you all had a lovely New Year’s Eve! John and I had a nice quiet evening at home, with champagne and veal chops for supper. “Lights-out” was at about 10 PM, as I just came off a 7 day work week that was a little like an Olympic luge run. I really did try to stay awake until midnight, but I found myself sitting at the dining room table after supper, with my knitting in hand, having fallen asleep right in the middle of a row.

In honor of the new year, I am going to make a few resolutions. I don’t usually do this, as they don’t last very long, but here goes.

I’m going to try to knit only from stash in 2008*. That means buying no new yarn, unless it’s for gifts for someone else. And no, it won’t work if I buy it as a gift for someone else, they already have it and give it back. I think that’s probably cheating. We’ll see how long this one lasts. I might have to take a sledge hammer to the computer to have any luck with this. I probably need to expand this one into not buying stuff in general that I don’t need, but let’s not get carried away here.

I’m seriously going to try to stop fretting about crap that I can’t do anything about. I think this one will last until about 2PM today, but I can try.

I am indeed going to finish that purple Icelandic stole. I am working on it, really.

And the Peace Fleece sweater for John, that’s going to get done, too.

And I’m going to blog more. There, that’s it.

Happy New Year to all of you! I’m going to eat my black eyed peas now.

*Yes, I really said that publicly. I may have to eat my words.

  1. OK so we’ll see who is stronger 😀
I am going to knit and weave at least 2/3 of the yarn and fiber I have around here. It will be processed that is for sure. That is a good one: quit worrying about things that can not be solved! Hear you on that one! Happy New Year to you too.

  2. Having found that words don’t taste NEARLY as good as blackeyed peas, I’m not even going to attempt such a resolution. (I’m offering up a more modest version, in that I resolve to finish every current WIP this year, as well as anything new I begin. I’m rooting for YOU, though, in your larger quest, as I know you’re honest and will tell us if you stumble.
Happy New Year!!! Here’s to more quiet champagne suppers!

  3. Resolutions are the kiss of doom for me – nothing more guaranteed to have me doing the opposite! Happy New Year to you and John and the critters!

  4. Happy New Year to everyone at your house!
I too am going to try and knit from my stash as much as humanly possible. I tend to go in spurts with yarn-buying, so maybe I can do this one longer than lots of other resolutions …
I’ll be waiting to see your progress on your projects.

  5. I’m in there with you! I was actually a little afraid to blurt it out on my blog, but I did tell Bill today that I’m going to knit from my stash this year as well. So we can support each other, ok? You beat us by 1/2 hour – we were in bed by 9:30, but we’re sick, so it’s ok. By the way – you need update your sidebar to include Lewey. Happy New Year to you, John and the crew.

  6. Did you give yourself at least one “get out of jail free” card? (grin)just in case you see a perfect new sweater or hat pattern for someone that you just HAVE to knit??? (chuckles here)
Just know that if you get desperate, swaps of yarn is probably permitted within the promise you’ve made to yourself, and feel free to call (my stash is kinda abundant too)
May you and John have a joyous new year ahead! And I hope we can get together again fairly soon.

  7. I did ok with the “knit from your stash” resolution last year…until the fiber festivals in the fall. But reorganizing it into I won’t mention how many plastic boxes really did provide a reality check on how much I really need to knit up. So there is no formal resolution this year, and I just thought I’d let “common sense” guide me in my yarn purchases. I suppose that will work until the 2008 fall fiber festivals.

  8. Good luck with the resolutions. I have a few goals set out but I need to post them to the blog.
Glad to see that the blackeyed peas have been accounted for. I had mine yesterday and will have leftovers today!
May 2008 be all that you and John hope for and more!

  9. I, too, am going to try that “let it go” mentality. I tried today… didn’t work. I’ll try again tomorrow. Or maybe on Friday.
    🙂

  10. Given the value of the $ against the L and E, I am doing the same.
I decided that the exception is to get a second yarn if I need more than one colour if the main colour is already in the stash.
And certainly – at least for sock yarn – there will be no new acquisitions till the stash is gone (which could take more than a year at a sock pair a week).
Don’t eat your words! Make them work for you!
