I’d Rather Be Knitting

I get to go to the dentist again today. I’m in the midst of a root canal, I had the first stage of it done a couple of weeks ago. It was not painful, but just long and unpleasant. The second half is today. The first stage was complicated by the partial crown that had been on that tooth fracturing a couple of days after, landing me in my regular dentist’s office for an emergency partial filling to patch it up. That happened the afternoon before we left for 10 days in Mexico. The rest of the old crown has fractures in it, so I’m expecting the same thing to happen today.

I also had several hours of rather weird vertigo hit me after the first part of the root canal. John is driving me today in case that happens again.

Sigh. At least I have dental insurance. And I have an appointment with my usual dentist later this month for a new crown.

Here’s what I’d rather be doing.

  1. Aww..bummer! I broke a crown a week prior to leaving for vacation a couple of weeks ago. I went in two days later and the dentist put in a temporary crown.

  2. I would rather be doing anything than going to the dentist. And I like my dentist. And I want to have good teeth as opposed to bad. But I do not want to go to the dentist. EVER.

  3. Awww, big bummer about your tooth! Guess we’ve all had that ‘fun’ experience sometime in our lives. I’m with you-I’d rather be knitting than at the dentist any day of the week, and I like my dentist! He always tells me after a check-up and cleaning that the ‘warranties are holding” lol!

  4. I deal with dental stress by falling asleep in the chair. Last summer I was informed I need SIX new crowns, a bridge and an implant. Snarkily, I asked if they had anything else to offer. Add a few veneers…enough to bring the total to 6 weeks and $10,000! Won’t be buying anything, let alone yarn, for a while!

  5. I am having a crown installed on Friday. The session in the chair a couple weeks ago was much like yours — not particularly uncomfortable (thank FSM for novocaine and nitrous oxide!) but l-o-n-g. My dentist claimed that certain combinations of ibuprofen and aspirin? acetominophen? are equal to opiates for dental pain. He even wrote them down for me. Gotta say, the three ibuprofen the assistant gave me late in the procedure alleviated ANY subsequent tooth or jaw pain.
