Knitted Christmas Gifts

Just a quick post. The past few weeks have gotten away from me a bit. Work is going well, but Christmas is one of those holidays that gets me tied in knots. I love the peace, joy, and blessings part, not so much the shopping, frenzied decorating, and gift exchanging parts. My general response is to bury my head in the snow and hope that the Christmas elves will do it all for me. We had our big annual solstice party for close friends this past weekend, and we still haven’t gotten all the wine glasses washed and put away. I have the last of the Christmas gift shopping to deal with today, then I’m home free.

As far as knitted gifts, here’s my take on it.

Mutts

I’m done with my Christmas knitting, because I don’t do Christmas knitting. So there, bah humbug!

Hopefully there will be a “real” post, with real knitting even, later this week. If I don’t get to it, have a blessed and safe holiday!

  1. I’m with you on the bah humbug part of Christmas – I love the peace & tranquility but, by the time that comes, most of us can’t even appreciate it. This year was made worse by having a major portion of my immediate family 2300 miles away. And my daughter kept putting off letting us know what the little ones wanted. I had planned to get the youngest (just turned 3 last month) Bitty Twins for her BD but, for some reason, DD thought they were too expensive. My fancy was especially captured by the blond girl boy twins (they are toddler looking dolls) because the girl looks so much like M & the boy looks so much like her oldest brother at that age. They blond girl blond boy were back ordered until March 11 by the time my daughter finally decided it was, in fact, a god choice for Christmas. So she is getting the blue eyed blond girl & brown eyed brown haired boy (fortunately her just older brother – the middle child looks like that). I did knit something for my daughter (DK weight socks because their Palo Alto house is that cold much of the year), a Wonderful Wallaby for the middle grand in his favorite color – purple, a baby blue lapghan for the oldest & a cute cloche for the little girl. I had intended polar fleece jammies for all the grands & rag quilts for the 2 youngest but that will come soon (hopefully – I seem to have still another cold.) I am beginning to prefer Thanksgiving more & more each year. It’s the only holiday left that hasn’t been totally commercialized (not that Hallmark hasn’t tried.)

  2. I tend to keep Christmas simple and quick. My only son’s birthday is the 19th so the trick is to provide 2 separately wrapped gifts in his box. Our g-son is only 3 so it makes gifting rather easy and our DIL is really easy to please. I always shop online (am disabled and can’t get out without help) and then all I have to do is wrap the presents and ship in time for Christmas. Then I can relax and enjoy the music and TV specials…and sip a glass of wine in the process! LOL

Here’s hoping the peace and tranquility of our Christmas dreams becomes your reality!

  3. I’ve been “done with my Christmas knitting” for the past two years! It’s so gratifying, isn’t it?

    I’m almost done decrapifying. Yay!!!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year tp y’all.

  4. I, too, stopped Christmas knitting a couple of years ago. My hat’s off to all of the Christmas knitters who thoroughly enjoy the task & challenge of getting a project completed just for this one holiday! Wishing you a very Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year. LOVE your blog!!

  5. Well, I make a few toys during the year because I like to knit toys. And hats. Beyond that, so. Bah humbug.

I need to find a video camera and someone who knows how to use it, but it looks like I might be persuaded to actually make a lace-spinning video.

    Happy Holidays!

  6. I am knitting a few presents, most of which I know will be appreciated (since they are in response to specific and direct requests,) but the ones I am trying to finish up might, I fear, be received like the one in the cartoon. I may print and enclose the cartoon, thus aknowleging that I am aware of the possibility. I hope the recipiets just think of the love involved, etc.

  7. Yes, Christmas knitting is automatic stress for me so I don’t do it either. There’s the whole rest of the year for knitted presents!

  8. World just doesn’t get that not everyone plays at Christian holidays. Ok, we can have parties without that music, celebrate with friends.

  9. My enthusiasm for Christmas knitting waxes and wanes. I often use it as a chance to clean up old bits of yarn for small presents and to experiment with things I’ve never knit before. My first pair of socks was a present, and this year my first cowl was a present. The frenzy of mall shopping really gets to me (in a bad way), and so quietly sitting and knitting is a real antidote to the commercialism.

  10. Ha! I clipped that same cartoon. Fortunately, we celebrate Christmas with the boys early – so we’re already done with the hustle and bustle. We had a very nice time. I don’t do Christmas knitting (except this year, I actually did some fundraising knitting for OTHER people! Yikes). Hope you find some peace, joy, happiness and tranquility this holiday season.
