More Knitting Time!

No photos today, since I’m supposed to leave for the airport in 2 hours and have neither showered nor packed (what? Plan ahead? I’m supposed to do that??). We’re heading to sunny San Diego for the week. The American College of Physicians has their annual internal medicine meeting there this year, and since I haven’t been to one in a while, I decided to go. It’s usually a really good medical conference, and it doesn’t hurt that it’s in a sunny spot in early April. It IS turning to spring here in Washington, but that still means rain, rain, clouds, 40 degrees, and more rain. And wind, let’s not forget that. So it will be nice to be somewhere warmer. And sun. Please, God, just a little sunshine.

I am planning to just take sock projects with me. I have two socks on the needles, one of which is in danger of immolation if it’s not finished by the end of the month, and the sweater is just too damned bulky to fit in a suitcase at this point. I haven’t researched yarn stores in SD yet, but I’m sure there are some. We’ll be staying in the Gaslight district, anybody have any suggestions for fibery things near there?*

OK, I’m off to pack. I’m taking Ernie** with me, so there might be blog posts if I have anything of note to report. Have a great week!

*Shhhhh…John thinks I just wander into these places by accident. Don’t spill that I research the yarn stuff before we go on vacation.

**Ernie is the Mac Air, he’s a great travel computer.

  1. I just saw this one another blog – thought you might need to look at it: Knit Your Own Royal Wedding by Fiona Goble …..because of course it includes wee little knitted corgis!!!!!!!!

  2. Have a great trip! I almost went to San Diego once. I was at the Sacramento airport, and as usual, in my anxiety, I got there way early. I was waiting at the gate noted on the overhead thing, and about an hour later, heard people talking about how nice and sunny it was going to be. Were they talking about Seattle? No way! In a panic, I discovered that the gate had been changed, and thinking that no one would be there that early, the didn’t bother to announce it. I would have been really upset if I had gotten off the plane in Sunny So Cal.

  3. Any plan to make it to Los Angeles?

The closest store I know to San Diego is not that close, about 1h 30′ away. It’s PurlSoho in Tustin. They are open to the public Tue–Fri and they serve as the warehouse for PurlSoho in NY. They have the best assortment of yarn, needles, books and accessories I have seen so far in one place. It might be worth the trip. If you decide to go, let me know and I’ll do my best to meet you there. I am about 1h–1h30′ away depending on traffic.

  4. Ah San Diego – as close to heaven as an atheist like me is likely to get here on earth!

  5. Encinitas is only about 1/2 hour north of San Diego on the 5 Freeway. Two yarn shops are close to each other (within blocks) there..I believe they are called The Black Sheep and Common Threads.

  6. The ladies at the Black Sheep have lots of lovely yarn, books, and love knitting. It’s about 45 mins from where you are staying but the string of beach towns make the trip worth it. Try a fish taco-the Brigatine in Del Mar has good margaritas too and overlooks Dog Beach or have breakfast/lunch at Pipes in Cardiff, walk on a sandy beach and watch the surfers while you finish those socks. If you want a restaurant right on the sand..my fav..in Del Mar is the Poisidon. Solana Beach has great shopping for everything but yarn on Cedros.

  7. Have a wonderful trip, CA is always fun and worth the milage. Yarn arrived yesterday truly lovely
    Thank you again
