Our Girlie

Riley

October 2000-February 27, 2013

Our sweet puppy left us yesterday, with her best friends around her. We’re both heartbroken and spent much of yesterday looking at the hundreds of photos that we’ve taken of her since she adopted us. Here are just a few that show the people and things she loved best.

  1. So sorry for the loss of your good friend, Riley. When we get a pet for the first time, (at least for me), I never realized how attached I would get. It is very hard. You have many sweet and fun memories of Riley! I love all those pictures.

    Love
    Linda and Larry

  2. So sorry! It’s damn difficult to lose our fur friends. I know the short time we have with them is filled with amazing amounts of joy but the end is always way too soon. Big Hugs from my Corgi Girls.

  3. I’m so sorry for your loss. She was a beautiful dog and if those photos are indication (and I bet they are) she had a wonderfully rich and happy life with her people.

  4. I’m so sorry to hear about your loss! I loved looking at all the wonderful pictures you posted in tribute to what looked like a wonderful life. *Hugs* from me (and Wilma, too)

  5. Oh, Lorette, I am so very sorry to read that you lost Riley yesterday. It is always horrible – been there twice – it hurts. Thank you for sharing the lovely photos of Riley. It gave us a chance to “know her” a little bit. Sending hugs to you both.

  6. That is very sad. It is so difficult to lose a loved pup (or kitty, of course.) Riley will be waiting at the Rainbow Bridge. (I always thought the Rainbow Bridge was the dumbest thing until my little Leslie went there.)

  7. I am so, so sorry about the loss of your beloved fur baby. They come into our lives for what seems like such a short time and no matter how long we have them it never seems like long enough. Know that has finished her journey and will be waiting for you to finish yours and she (he?) will tell you what a good puppy mommy you are.

    *huggles*

  8. What wonderful photographs of your sweet girl’s life. The one of her licking the beater is fabulous. So sorry for your loss.

  9. I am so sorry. We have been dogless for almost a year now – unheard of! But we had to put our dog down in December 2011, and then our granddog in spring 2012. I have been pushing for a dog but hubby says it is hard because he finally had to admit how hard it was on him to lose 2 dogs in such a short time. Hugs and thoughts to you both on your loss.

  10. Oh, Lorette, I’m so sorry to hear of your loss. Your “Girlie” looks like a wonderful doggie…. It is so very sad to lose a beloved pet. Been there, done that with several loving kitties. God bless you for providing a wonderful home for your Girlie….who knows….we may meet our pets in Heaven one day!

  11. I am close to tears; there is nothing like the death of a fur baby. I know your heart is broken and I am so sorry. Thanks for sharing the pics of Riley…they help to lessen the blow a bit by making us smile. You all are in my prayers.

  12. Riley was such a sweet, sweet girl. I remember the time you visited and she, Lewey and Maggie all went out for ice cream. Remember the good times.

  13. So sorry for your loss and sadness – as a good friend said after her dog went to dog heaven, “nobody loves you like your dog”.

  14. Clearly your Riley had a terrific home and a wonderful life. As we are all spirits moving through these Earthly bodies you will see Riley again. As a helper for Humane Society of Michigan and owner of 4 cats, thank you for the care and love you both gave to this undoubtedly beloved dog.

  15. What a wonderful tribute and pictures. Its so sad to lose a pet but you can tell she had a good happy life. Big Hug!

  16. Loved the pictures, thanks for sharing…what a treasure your sweet girl was….

  17. I am so very sorry for you loss (((Lorette and John))). Thanks for sharing pictures of Riley. Although I didn’t know her personally, I can see a little of her personality and I know she will be missed.

I’ll be keeping y’all in my thoughts.

  18. I am sorry to hear about Riley.
Our yellow lab, Abby got me up at 5 this morning to eat and play. I was grumbling but now will give her a big hug.

  19. I am so sorry for your loss of sweet Riley. I send you warm hugs knowing it is small consolation.

  20. I’m late to the game, but chiming in on how very sorry I am that you lost your girlie.

Pete the Basset Hound (heh, I typed House at first–SO very true) slings healing drool your way.

  21. I am sorry to stir up your feelings again, but I just found out about your girl, Riley. My sympathy to you and John. I know there will always be a hole in your heart for her. How do I know this, because we lost our precious Ahn Li (a shih tzu) almost two years ago and grief still sneaks up and grabs us. May your healing come in waves.

  22. So very very sorry for your loss. The pictures you shared of Riley showed her wonderful life with you -which made her one very lucky pooch. Many hugs to you and John!!

  23. Pets are family and I am sorry you lost sweet Riley. It looks like she had a wonderful life with you and your husband. We lost our 11 year old dog last October and there is still an ache in my heart.

  24. I have to correct my previous post. We lost our dog in October of 2011, not last year. (Sigh) I will always miss him.

  25. I am so sorry about your Riley. We lost our two wonderful, fat, lazy, sweet beagles within 2 months of one another and as we were already an empty- nest pair we felt the loss of our dogs even more.
We did decide to get another puppy at the end of summer and all trips, vacations are behind us. We put a deposit down on a wire fox terrier for late August delivery- sounds like I bought a dog on Amazon, doesn’t it?
Again, as a dog- lover, my heart goes out to you.

  26. I am just getting a little caught up on blog reading. I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your dog. I know when I think back on Hero’s passing, though it has been five years now, I still tear up. Our dogs are such a special part of our lives – hugs to you!

  27. LOVE LOVE LOVE these sweet pictures of Riley! They do tangle themselves in our heartstrings. So sorry to hear of your loss. It’s so sad to lose a pet.

  28. I am soooo sorry to hear of your losing sweet Riley! I’m sorry I was in my own ‘stuff’ and not reading blogs and missed this…so hard I know. Riley was so lucky to have the two of you and I know your fur baby will be missed!
