Saturday Sky

It’s time for Saturday Sky pictures again. But first, it’s weigh-in day. A drum roll, please.

1.6 pounds this week. This was a difficult week. Last week was all excitement and fun. This week was all about realizing that this is a long project; even longer than knitting a complex lace shawl. 6-8 months long, if I keep up the current rate of weight loss. I tend to have a short attention span, and when I get bored with something, it happens fast. So it was hard to stay on the plan this week. But I did, mostly, and the little red Volkswagon (same car that I drive in real life) moved ahead a respectable distance.

On to that Saturday Sky.

It is supposed to hit the 90’s here today, which is awfully hot for this part of the country. For once, I’m glad to see clouds and a bit of gray sky on a weekend. Yesterday it was in the 80’s and sunny, and the house got very warm. We don’t have air conditioning here, as we really don’t have that many days a year where we would appreciate it. Our bedroom is on the top level of our house, and gets a bit warm at times. Our other bedrooms are in the lower level, and cooler, but only have beds with footboards. At 5’10”, I just can’t sleep in them, as they are too short. So last night, I slept here for part of the night.img_4922

Lawn chair cushions make a fairly fine mattress for a hammock, by the way. I’m sure, however, that if there was any shred of hope in the neighbors’ minds that I resemble anything other than a total lunatic, that shred is gone. At about 2 AM, Lucy wandered outside. That would be Lucy, the cat who never goes outside, and who is as dumb as a brick about all the dangers of the big outdoors, especially at night. She normally sleeps with me, so I think she was planning on getting in “bed” with me, then got weirded out by the sight of me in the hammock and started racing around the back yard. So I’m out there, in the dark, in my t-shirt and underwear, carrying my pillow and teddy bear (yes, Sweetpea came with me to the back yard; it was too hot for her upstairs, too), running around the patio chasing the damn cat back in the house. Fortunately enough, by that time it had cooled off just a bit, and I retired to the much more comfortable bed upstairs, with what shreds of dignity I had left.

Just as a comparison, here’s my Friday Sky. We had friends over last night, and had drinks out on our deck. This is what the sky looked like at sunset. A bit fuzzy, but it gives you an idea. Which reminds me, I need to find the tripod for my camera. It’s buried under the piles of yarn somewhere, I’m sure.

  1. I hope you have spmething in mind to treat yourself with once you reach your goal!! Way to go!! Happy treadmilling! Beautiful skies!

  2. They say the slower it comes off the more likely it is to stay off. Great sky pictures…and I’m envious of the hammock!

  3. Good job! The bug is headed in the right direction. Thursdays are my weigh-in days. Your public display has encouraged me to post mine starting this coming week.

  4. Beautiful skies! More than one pound in the second week is still great progress. It allows you to average enough when things start to stall.
I could just picture you chasing the cat! Lots of giggles over here about that.

  5. Good job on your weight loss! Gorgeous sunset. And I’m laughing out loud at your bedtime story! Very funny πŸ™‚

  6. Good Job! I lost 30 pounds on WW a few years ago…..unfortunately, they found me…and brought friends πŸ™
I’m so glad the deck is back in order so you can enjoy the great view! We had a great time up there recently, but as ususal, we had more ucky days than nice ones.

  7. HI!
congrats on the weight loss! That is awesome. I too am in the process of changing my eating habits and how I view food. (I am a total emotional eater) …. I also have a short attention span, or maybe it is that I worry about being “skinny” and what it will mean for me. Personally I think that I hide behind my fat *chuckles*
If you ever want an accountability partner send me an email!

  8. The thing about cats is — they do not come when you want them to. Just when they want to. I try to get my three inside at night because there are coyotes here. Sometimes they come in, sometimes they sit twenty feet away and blink at me (the cats, not the coyotes).
It’s hot here. I’m spending the day knitting and watching videos.

  9. I should have known you would drive a bug!!!!love them..I want a green one!
I’m feeling ya’..with all the fans and the eiling fans..it was 90 inside my house and it didn’t get cooled off during the night. At 5’9″ I don’t like that bed board either! Good job on the buggy moving..I need to get a scal that is a little more precise although it isn’t far off from the Drs scale πŸ™‚ love the sunsets…we are just too HOT here on the west coast!!!

  10. Congrats on your progress on the fitness goals! And I’m pretty sure that chasing the cat around the backyard in the middle of the night counts double for activity points too! =)

  11. So, the big question is – were the neighbors out to see you running around in your underwear?!
Those last two sky pictures are breathtaking.

  12. Oh, no doubt the realization that this is a life-time process will help you … WW will drill it in, believe me. It is helping me to say that I will stick with this until my 50th birthday, no if-ands-or-buts about it.
I laughed at your hammock story. If I slept in my hammock a bear or mountain lion might get me..lol
A teddy bear, eh? My dd took her Cabbage Patch doll to college with her and I’m slightly concerned this Cabbage Patch doll will go on a honeymoon someday. Did you teddy go on your honeymoon?

  13. Gorgeous sunset! Good job on the weightloss! It’s a hard battle. I, too, have a short attention span with stuff and easily get bored. Last year I lost 25lbs … this year not.a.one. I need to get back into a routine of exercise and get that last 15-20 gone!
Great blog, by the way. I was sent over here to check out your review of the KnitPicks needles. I’m looking to get a set. The only bad thing I’ve heard about them is that they weigh quite a bit more than some other needles. Weight isn’t really an issue for me (with needles anyway) …
    Happy Knitting!!

  14. Great job! I’m determined to get back to my workout tomorrow morning, unless of course a tree falls on my house tonight, which the way my month is going it’s possible.

  15. Hey, my best friend’s bear went on her honeymoon with her. . . πŸ™‚
And congrats … any progress is good progress, right?
    And love your sky.

  16. Oh! You should do the Master Knitting too! You knit way better than me so I know you’d have fun doing it πŸ™‚

  17. Congratulations on the weight loss. My sister is doing ww online. She was away without an internet connection for a few days and told me to sign into her account and try it. Know how long I tracked my food? 1 snack. Pathetic. Plus, it was junkfood. I’m never going to lose my pregnancy weight. So way to go for doing it for a couple weeks! I’m totally impressed!

  18. Way to go on the ALMOST 2 pound drop! That is great – remember doctor 1.5 – 3 pounds a week is perfect! So, my dear, you are right where you want to be!
I finally did weigh this week. After 2 months on the Fat Smash Diet I have lost about 11 pounds. I then got sloppy, was being careful but not ON the diet. Still exercising…so when I weighed I figured I was in for bad news…NOT SO – I have maintained! Which says great things about the food plan. I slipped but didn’t gain any weight. But you are encouraging me – I am back on the wagon…10 more to go!!!
    Congrats again!!!

  19. Ah yes, Weight Watchers! After the month in Spain and Paris I gained only .6 pounds. I thought that I would lose weight, what with all the walking! But, no, the cafes con leche, the daily gelato, the fabulous bread, etc., etc., took their toll!!

  20. Ahhh, beautiful sky there. But more importantly, go you on the weight loss! Slow and steady is the best way to do it, so you’re doing perfectly πŸ™‚
