Sunshine!

No rain, no clouds, it’s actually warm here. I can already tell that we will love San Diego and want to come back. We got here late yesterday, then had a nice dinner last night at an Iranian restaurant in the Gaslamp district.

Here I am at the airport.

No, that’s not that blasted unfinished brown sock. It’s on my Blackthorn needles, which I’m not sure I’d try to get on an airplane. I did put this away after we got here though, I’m going to seriously try to finish the brown pair this week.

Today we paid for one of those city trolley tour things. It was a relatively cheap way to get transportation all over the city for a day. We rode all the way around the city tour, but spent most of the day at Balboa Park. You could spend a whole vacation just there. There are great trails, nice gardens, and lots of cool museums. We ended up doing the space and flight museum, which was fun. I met a fellow knitter there.

That’s Amelia Earhart, with her airplane. I didn’t know that they had found her.

What, you didn’t know she was a knitter?? Look closely at her left hand. Click to make it bigger….

A sock knitter, no less. Funny, she’s knitting socks in the same yarn that I am.

We also saw one of the Blackbird Stealth jets at the museum.

It amuses me to no end that the jet is made out of the same stuff as my knitting needles.

Here’s proof that there are sunshine and flowers in southern California.

And some pretty scenery.

Tomorrow we have tickets for a Padres game. They won their home opener today, so hopefully it will be a good game tomorrow. We have the morning to goof off, but haven’t quite decided what we’ll do yet. My conference starts the following day, so we’re going to try to pack in as much tomorrow as we can!

  1. I lived in SD for several years and HATED it!! The only time it’s not brown is in the sping when all the flowers are in bloom. So glad you could visit now rather than in the heat of summer.

  2. AHA! Fred dropped her knitting which caused her to try and find it before the stitches ran all the way back to cast on ergo, missing her island stop. LOL 🙂

  3. Have fun in SanDiego. My husband just boarded his flight. He will be teaching a course with a fellow neurologist. We are a two doctor, one knitter household.

  4. You found my missing relative. Seriously, the family has been so upset all these years and she has been in SD.

I love the pictures! Keep ’em coming!

  5. Mmmmm, I LOVE Iranian food! My step-dad is from Iran, and it’s soooo good. What did you have?

I didn’t know Amelia Earhart was a knitter. Spooky that you two have such similar taste in projects… Maybe it’s because you’re both such adventurers?

  6. The morning to goof off? And no plans? HA! I expect to read full report of some yarn shop you managed to stumble into….

  7. That sounds like a really good day in San Diego. You got down here just at the right time. The weather was bad last weekend and is getting bad again starting tomorrow.

I didn’t know about the Blackthorn needles. One more thing for my wish list. 🙂

  8. Amelia Earhart knitting was a good one! Too funny. By the way, if you get a chance & have the time, the Wild Animal Park a bit north of Sand Diego is a wonderful place to explore-especially the Kodak ‘wagon’ tour that goes right into the animal areas. We actually got to feed apples to a rhino (the like to be pet!), and leaves to the giraffes. Great experience.

  9. ahhh, ol’ stomping ground…there is sooooo much to see. Soon to move there for a third time if we can get the house sold. living there and visiting are two diff. things, but there are great things to cherish. wonderful Golden meetup group for one! had to chuckle at the airport pic…rain!
