John and I were running errands earlier this week, and on the way home, saw this sight:
A new yarn store! It’s not open yet, and when I peered in the window, it’s still an empty building. So why is this so exciting? It’s less than a quarter of a mile from my house, people. A yarn shop I can walk to from home. I’ll keep you posted.
I obviously didn’t get around to doing the requisite “Happy Easter” post. We had a quiet day at home, with little lamb chops cooked on the grill. We had to grill them in between hail storms, but that’s sort of normal for spring weather around here.
For dessert, I served Peeps and chocolate sauce. Here’s my “recipe”.
Put Peeps on plate.
Nuke them in your microwave for 20-30 seconds. This is the exciting part. It’s hard to get a good photo of the blown up Peeps, as they collapse quickly once you take them out.
Add chocolate sauce, and serve.
Don’t laugh until you’ve tried them.
In knitting news, I’m still working on that Shedir hat. The pattern calls for one skein of Calmer. Here’s how far 1 skein got me.
In case you’re wondering, I’m on row 58 of an 83 row pattern. The rows get shorter pretty quickly from here, but still. This was yarn left over from when I made Audrey, so fortunately I have more:
I wound up that partial ball and weighed it on my handy-dandy drug-dealer’s scale*.
15.6 grams. I’ll weigh what I have left and let y’all know how much more than 1 ball this sucker takes.
*Have I mentioned how much I love my drug-dealer’s scale?
There is nothing more dangerous than a LYS that’s THAT close to home. I should know: I have four that are within 5 miles of my house. That’s why I have no visible floor in my living room.

I’ll have to pass that Peeps recipe along to my other half. His current favorite is “Peep S’Mores”, which he eats with great relish every Spring ;-).

I LOVE microwaved peeps! Largely for the entertainment value. My husband roasted peeps over a bonfire last weekend (long, weird story) and has decided that “peep brulee” is one of his favorite desserts.
Ooooh, your bank account is *toast*! This might be a good thing if your local stores also stock peeps. I can get behind your bread but not the peeps!!! *shudder*

Uh-Oh. There goes your Yarn Focus Challenge? If I lived within walking distance of an LYS, I would need to sell myself to them as an indentured servant.

I would love to have a yarn store near me! I also love my drug dealer scale that you totally got me to buy.
I don’t know if I (or, more precisely, my bank account) could handle a LYS within walking distance of my house. It is tough enough resisting browsing and sale emails from the on-line sources I usually use.
DH tried the bread you showed in your prior post, and it was wonderful. He made modest modifications to use things we had in the house–walnuts and dark raisins–and he did the whole thing in the machine. My customary dietary restraint is a thing of the past.
Uh oh – that’s going to be dangerous. I showed hubby your Easter dessert and he wants to be invited over next year. He keeps a supply of Peeps in the freezer so he won’t be without year round.

Good luck resisting the danger that is a truly local LYS! And thanks for mentioning that about Shedir; I have one ball leftover from the Phyllo-Yoked pullover that I knit and I was considering the hat. 🙁
Ditto all the other comments on the perils of a LYS so close. My closest is about 1.5 miles away. A hefty-ish walk, but it so justifies the yarn purchases!
Peeps look interesting – I will have to try it.
Keep us posted on the ‘how much Calmer does Shedir really take’ issue. I have skein of Calmer all ready to go – but I only have one!
Ooh – I’m not sure which I love more – the new LYS, the Peeps recipe or the lovely pink hat. It’s a tough call.

Re Calmer: You gotta be kidding me… How many more rows could there be? or maybe I just don’t remember what the hat looks like specifically… That stinks.. I’ve been there and it’s no fun.

Love those new yarn stores. We have one too. I went there today. I shouldn’t have. I ended up getting 2400 yds of Cherry Tree Hill Merino Lace in Dusk. I just couldn’t help myself. I have been wanting to make my Peacock Feathers shawl forever. But just wasn’t feeling the color yarn I had.
Started it once I got home. Yummy!
And I feel ya with the running out of yarn. But it’s good you had some more.

I made Shedir with about 5 meters of Calmer to spare. Enough to tighten some sphincters, but finish the hat. What needles did you use? I ended up going down to US 1s to get guage. I’ve just started another one, so we’ll see if my meter-age is reproduceable.
Ok, I see the obvisouly addiction about to fall off the wagon once more:

This is late, but I’ve just logged on to catch up. I alwant want Peeps in their gorgeous spring colors, but then can’t get past the crunch of the outside coating. It is just like the crunch of the south Texas dirt that, as a small child, I used to find so tempting. Okay. Too much info. I’m going to shut up and try my new H & S ebonies.
