You will note that the ticker was reset again. I’m hopeless, but least I’m honest. More about that later.
We went on a little road trip this weekend to the Oregon coast with the new car and the dogs. We found a nice little resort right on the beach that was dog-friendly, and stayed for a few days. It was cool, rainy, and windy, but just a perfect get-away, and the dogs had a blast running on the beach.
Here is a travelogue, in photos.
In the car, more than ready to go:

It would have been better if we’d gotten a room with a nicer view:

All this leads to two very tired but happy dogs.
Of course there was a yarn shop in town. Isn’t there always? I bought two skeins of sock yarn, which of course I don’t need. What’s your point?
There is a skein of Jitterbug sock yarn, in the color Lapis. The other one is Noro Kureyon sock yarn, which I had no desire to buy until I actually saw it.
My second mistake was that we took our laptop along with us. We had wireless internet access, which is always dangerous when combined with a credit card and lots of free time. My logic went like this: I’ve already blown the yarn shopping fast, and have to post about it, so why not really do it up right? This makes perfect sense to all of you, right? Don’t even begin to try to convince me that you all wouldn’t do the same.
So I was browsing online and found the Three Irish Girls website. I couldn’t resist some more sock yarn. Look at their colors, and see if you don’t fall for this, too. Then I realized that I had a coupon for 10% off at Kris’s shop, Sonny and Shear. Let’s just say that I won’t need to buy sock yarn for a few more lifetimes. These haven’t arrived yet, but I’m pretty sure I’ll love all of them, too.
Last but not least, thank you all for the lovely comments on my last post! I got to wear the stole on vacation, and it provided some much-needed warmth!
Very cool!!!! We’re thinking about driving the Oregon coast for our vacation this year. This has me inspired.
Gorgeous photos – heh, like you could GET a nicer view than that without sleeping on the beach…
Beautiful! It reminds me of our favorite California spot, Pismo Beach/Morro Bay area.
Oh, my goodness, Lorette, your pictures do me so much good! It’s cold and wet and gray and miserable here – nice to remember it’s not like this everywhere!
Your new yarn is amazing that colourway of Jitterbug is incredible! :0)
What a great getaway! We’ve been wanting to do some traveling with Maggie and that looks like just the ticket. And of course, we all would have done the same with the yarn. You certainly don’t need to apologize. We are not the yarn police. In fact, I have to laugh because we’d probably be there egging you on!
That beach is stunning! I love the pic of lone lil Lewey on the beach, so cute!
Woman you are EVIL, that Tierney is glorious!
Looks like a good time was had by all! (Incidentally, I don’t count yarn I buy on vacation, because it’s my souvenir. Yep, that’s my theory. Feel free to sign on …)
Lorette, what a beautiful place! I really envy you though the place where my family lives, near ALASSIO, in Liguria is pretty beautiful too. The view from the window was beautiful, according to me. And I love the sock you took with you. I am knitting socks with a Jitterburg shade which is almost the same and I am itching to get some Noro sock yarn too… The guys seemed pretty happy too. I can’t wait to be able to take my girls to the beach (which here in Italy is not so simple… fewer beaches and most do not allow dogs… but I will find one)I tried to send you a pic of the puppies but your server did not accept replies to the email you sent me. Could you give me another address, please, if you want to see the pics? Thanks.
I am very happy you could have such a wonderful holiday. Happy Knitting!
1. Joho is STUNNING! Such a luxurious length too – it was worth weighing the yarn after every row.
2. Who could resist that colorway of Jitterbug?
3. If I’m ever visiting the Oregon coast I’m writing you to find out where this place is. Your vacations are always Heaven on Earth! We all need some of that as often as possible. Thanks for sharing the photos until we can get there. 🙂
I have the same problem when the credit card is combined with the inability to sleep. My e-bay is open as I write this.
The Haystack looks as beautiful as I remember. I just can’t remember when we were there. 20 years ago maybe?
What do you mean “a nicer view”? You were right there on the beach! It looks like the perfect way to spend a few days away from it all. Don’t feel bad about bringing the laptop. I wouldn’t go anywhere without it. 🙂
Looks like a good time was had by all. In the late 90’s daughter #1 was a student at the University of Oregon in Eugene. I visited with daughter #2 and we stayed in a similar motel in Cannon Beach. We had a fabulous time, even tho the weather was rainy. We simply donned raincoats and explored the tide pools. In fact, the weather was so windy that in front of our window the seagulls were flying backwards. They were trying to fly into the wind, but the wind was so strong it pushed them backwards!!
what an amazing place to stay!!! Are you divulging where it is?
Your new yarn is such fun – and thanks for the link to Three Irish Girls – pretty stuff.
Internet buying of yarn on vacation? Dude. You are a SERIOUS yarn collector.
The view looks pretty good to me sitting here beach less.
Hi Lorette – lovely shawl, just exquisite! I’d sure appreciate your sharing the name of the dog-friendly resort on the Oregon coast. Our Australian Shepherd is a closet beach dog – went absolutely nuts on the beach in Brookings chasing the birds. She was so intent on chasing a bird that she ran right into a creek that fed into the ocean. She was running so fast she went right past the shallow part off the drop off – disappeared completely under water – we were headed in to rescue her – but she finally popped up and paddled to shore, daring us to laugh aloud at her… Anyway, if we can’t get to Hawaii later this month, the Oregon coast is the back-up plan.
Thanks very much – Katie
What a gorgeous getaway! Love the jitterbug yarn….I made a pair in that same colorway…and then went back and bought some for myself (I actually made myself choose 2 out of the 3 colorways I originally wanted!!). The socks are on my blog. The yarn is a joy to knit with and the colors are drool-y!
You’re so silly. I love Cannon Beach. What a view!!
Lorette, you made me miss my dog. She passed just a few weeks ago at age 14.5. We too had enjoyed many a relaxing, dog filled weekend in Cannon Beach.
And I happened to notice that your two top books are sitting right next to me within reach, if I would ever put down my needles! That’s the one drawback I have found to knitting — not as much reading time. And I don’t derive the same pleasure from audio books.
And thanks to you I will soon be receiving a knitting bracelet and some needle hugger markers. A Canadian friend had one but I didn’t know where she had purchased it. They are lovely.
I didn’t make it to see YH this time. Saw her the last time she was at Third Place and at Madrona though. What a hoot!
That looks great! My friend Melinda goes there w/ TX friends. E
