Not Dead Yet!

Well, that wasn’t really an intentional month-long blog break. I’ve had some ugly-icky stuff going on at work over the past several weeks that I really couldn’t blog about (still can’t), for confidentiality reasons, but just really didn’t feel like blogging about anyway. Most of the posts would have been:

Nothing new at work that I can talk about.
Nothing new in my personal life, because work sucks and also sucks out my life-blood.
No new knitting.
Haven’t taken a photo of anything in weeks.
The End.

Ok, things are better, work doesn’t suck anymore, and I actually knit a row or two yesterday. When I got an email today from a reader asking if I was OK, I figured I better post something to let you all know that I’m not dead. I’ve finally had some good news at work, and after all, I have a secure job that pays well, not any small thing in the current economy. I’ve also had a birthday in the past two weeks, relatively obscured by the work-suckyness, but a birthday none-the-less. I’ve had champagne in the past week, and got some lovely birthday flowers and cards, as well as a set of quite perfect Bose noise-cancelling headphones from my sweetiepie. And chocolate. Let’s not forget the non-suckyness of chocolate.

Knitting? Look at the last few posts, I’ve not made much progress. The Not-Quite-A-Cobblestone is half a sleeve and a yoke short of a full sweater. My Arctic Circle Monkey socks are one sock short of a pair. I haven’t knit a single stitch on that Peacock shawl, and the orange Morse code socks are in time-out. I’ve decided that I can only deal mentally with 1 pair of socks at a time.

And let’s not forget, while we’re talking about good things, that I’m writing a blog post while my husband is down cooking me dinner. I’m off to join him for a post-work glass of wine. I’ll be back soon, hopefully with a knitting update!

  1. I had noticed the silence….
I’m glad to know things are turning the corner. I know the sort of thing whereof you speak. Happy Belated Birthday! The Bose are awesome, especially for trips! Especially for trips by yourself.
    And chocolate never sucks.
Hugs. Hope you can find the time and mental energy for knitting, it’s therapeutic, as you well know.

  2. Glad to hear all is well. So sorry about work. I don’t know about you, but I am SO looking forward to retirement. I envy John and Bill – but we do get meals cooked for us on a regular basis, don’t we? We’re both pretty lucky women. The economy is not totally leaving us unscathed. Ben received his layoff notice yesterday. The good news is that perhaps this will give him the kick in the pants to look for something closer to Washington!

  3. Hang in there – it’s good to hear that you’re focusing on the positive, even when things are sucky. And, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! :0)

  4. Sorry work has been sucky, I know that just suit up and show up way of getting through. As far as not having any knitting to blog about, heh, don’t worry, I’m making a knitting blog with no knitting at all. Occasionally I wipe the monitor with a skein of Misti alpaca and that’s as close as it gets. Happy birthday!

  5. Sorry about work…glad to hear things are looking a bit up. This job definitely has its downsides. But would you do it all over? I don’t think I would. But then I can’t imagine myself doing anything else. Hang in there.

  6. Lorette! Good to see you back in cyberspace.
Since the Ike thing – haven’t made much time to blog, myself.
Glad you have good things to celebrate amidst the not-so-good.
    Happy Belated Birthday!

  7. Been enjoying my read of your backlogs. I like the specifics of your project details, and your fab knitting of course. Can’t believe you got away with those mismatched socks…having Claudia in your circle, that is! I do see a resemblance in those perfectly executed picots, though. Congrats on your long running blog!

  8. Sorry about work sucking. hope your ‘new year’ is good. ‘this too will pass’. thank goodness for glasses of wine and supportful husbands! happy knitwishes, Ingrid

  9. happy belated birthday.
I am chuckling at this post, because I was thinking of writing something similar…. and still might…………
what a bizarre month October has been. I’ll be glad when it is behind us.
