Or, Why The Major Is Way Ahead Of Me:
I do have an excuse, of sorts. I had a little malfunction involving some exciting episodes of NCIS (Mark Harmon, anybody?? He’s quite distracting!), along with an apparent ability to follow a cable chart as written. I’m currently at 16 of 20 repeats of that pattern, and somewhere back at about repeat 12, I goofed. There are these nice center cross cables, and I noticed that I’d forgotten to cross one of them about 12 rows back. After some judicious use of swear words, I bit the bullet and ripped back to fix it. Somewhere along in repeat 13, I took a look again, and noticed that not only had I crossed the cable like I was supposed to, I’d apparently made up for the earlier lapse by crossing it twice.
I did consider just leaving it, but my better knitting angels took over, and out it came again. That time I ended up tinking back a little further than I’d intended, since I had some trouble tinking the cables without screwing them up. Honestly, there wasn’t even any whiskey involved in all this.
I’m now making forward progress, at least for the moment. The Major has finished the bottom cable, and has picked up all those stitches along one edge for the hem. I’m hoping to get that far this weekend, which I have OFF from my new job! Have a good one, all of you!

Cable mis-crossings are really annoying. I’ve had to drop simple cables down a few rows and fix them, but a full cable? I’d cry.
I, too, would have called it a design element! I hate frogging back on cables – I have trouble figuring out where I am. And yes, Mark Harmon is quite distracting.
This sounds like the pocket lining on my current sweater. I have done it three times and made a different mistake each time. Actually, I made two at a time, the first time, (wrong needle size, stockinette instead of ribbing), then right needle size but still stockinette, then finally right needles and ribbing. Fortunately, a pocket lining is not very big.
Now you know why I don’t do cables……….
I think Mark Harmon is a great excuse – he is indeed distracting. And he just seems to keep getting better with age. I’m going to need to make a decision about starting a new sweater soon and can’t decide if I want to do Faery Ring first of a gansey. Decisions, decisions!

Mark Harmon is so distracting that I got no further than his name in reading your post yesterday. Then I had to go to Amazon & put all the Moonlighting DV’s on my wish list. I hadn’t thought of it for years but I loved that show eso with him. Before I retired, I worked in an office that was about 60% balck women (most about my age or a little younger – so middle aged when the series was on) & we all loved that show. The interesting thing to me was that, when Mark Harmon was on, we all discussed who Maddie should choose & all of the black women thought Bruce Willis was so much sexier than Mark Harmon but the white women were almost unanimous in drooling over Mark Harmon. (the black women thought he wasn’t manly enough! an opinion that flabbergasted most of the white women)

Oh no! I hate it when that happens. I’m debating whether or not I’m going to take this project with me for my Thanksgiving trip. I probably should, or I’ll lose momentum, and all my readers know that would be a bad thing for the future of this WIP. Good luck. You can do it!

You did the right thing. The “little problem” would be all you’d see. Sometimes we have to bite the knitting bullet. Yes, I know, I know. It’s a mixed metaphor.
OMG, I had the same thing happen to me for the cowl scarf (from the Vogue Holiday Mag) that I am knitting. Got the darn thing twisted somehow. Darn that Mark Harmon, but he sure has a good looking toosh, yes I am a toosh man, and can you believe it I am married to a flat ass man. How did this happen. Must be that good sex he can do!!!!
You are so funny, can so see me feeling the same way. Except I went and got a glass of wine when I had to rip my out (I dislike that word (“cleanse” that some people use). It is not cleansing, it is ripping the puppy out.

BTW, do you know a good Ortho Surgeon in the Portland area?? My son messed up his shoulder really bad this summer and is putting off the surgery because who knows the heck why. It is a long story and I told him that he needs to get taken care of. But you know these grown boys they think they can still ride dirt bikes and have fly overs and think their 38 year body will handle it like when they were 15!!!! I had a great surgeon for my rotator this summer but I live in Auburn, CA a long way from Portland.
