Or,
April Wrap-Up
I can explain. There are a lot of reasons for the brief blog absence, but here’s the main one.
I finally made it into the 21st century and got an iPhone. To say that I’ve been captivated by it would be an understatement. I can finally get rid of all those little bits and pieces of paper and the paper so-called organizer that is NEVER in sync with anything else around here.
So. Here were the April goals.
I have some Corgi Hill  True Blood Red fiber that I started last summer, spindle spun. I’m going to get half of it spun up.
The wheel project is that Spunky Eclectic fiber. It’s Targhee wool, the color is called Flannel. I’ll show you a photo next time, it’s gotten dark here and photos just aren’t working tonight. I want to FINISH that!
Get the bodice done on the Faery sweater, and start a sleeve.
Really, those damned brown socks that I’ve been knitting forever need to be done. I promise that if I don’t finish them by the end of April, that I will burn them in the backyard in a spectacular sacrifice to the goddess of knitting. Really. I’ll take pictures.
And how did I do? I got part of a batt of the red fiber spun, but nowhere near half. I didn’t come close to finishing the Targhee fiber. I have an excuse for both of those, which I’ll show you later. I’m very easily distracted, as most of you know if you’ve been following me for very long.
I did finish those brown socks. Thank God, I’d have hated to have to burn them in the back yard. Besides, it’s been raining here so much that I doubt I’d have gotten a fire started.
I didn’t come close on the Faery sweater. Here’s where I am.
So I did actually work on it. I’ve gotten most of the left front done, I only have a few rows left before I can put it on a holder and work on the back section. At this rate I might finish it in time to wear for NEXT winter.
I did read a couple of books, and I also did 8 blog posts in April. Plus several levels of Cut The Rope on my new phone. Don’t even ask.
And what was that excuse for not getting any spinning done, you might ask?
That’s 4 ounces worth of a very dirty Romney fleece, from a sheep named Peggy. Here it is getting a bath:
And here it is, much cleaner:
I think I’ve officially lost my mind. I have another pound of this, but can’t quite face it at the moment.
How about goals for May? I probably should set some before the month is over.
I really want to finish the body section of the True Blood Faery section.
I want to finish the Targhee spinning.
Blog more.
That’s it. I’m not over-reaching this month.
So if anybody has some cool, you-can’t-live-without-them iPhone apps, let me know about them in the comments. Just remember, for every game recommendation you send me, I’ll get that much less knitting done.
I started out with Cut the Rope, but someone told me about Angry Birds – waaay too addictive. Don’t even try the free version – you’ll have to buy the full one and after you clear all the levels you’ll have to do them all again trying to get 3 stars on every one – ask me how I know
OOOO – you got the white one. Way cool. That’s on my wish list. Plants vs. Zombies is our very favoritest app on the iPad – I think it’s available for the iPhone too. I guarantee if you get that you will be hooked.
oooooh, iPhone! Congrats.
I have an iPad. my entire family loves that darn thing.
I am resisting the urge to just give you my game list. It gets VERY distracting. I also have a handful of useful apps, fitness apps, yoga apps, children education apps…
PDF-notes is VERY HELPFUL for knitting because you can download PDF’s of your favorite patterns and mark off where you are at anytime. LOVE THAT ONE.
I haven’t yet found a knit app I can’t live without…so far they are pretty meh. bummer!!!
Flyloop is a sweet little game to clear your head..think chasing butterflies and you are home!
tee hee.
and WOWZERS on your to do list.
How are you going to card up that fiber? are you going to dye it???
I want to dye some fiber I have but I need some help.
xo
I love my iphone!!! I keep everything from prescribing references to a Boggle game on the thing. Moved up to the iphone 4 this week and have now started using it as my gps and also started using the ipod feature. Love havign 3 electronic devices in one.
I love it. Sounds like a pretty fun month exploring new things – fiber and e-fun. I got hooked on my blackberry’s game recently… so I can totally related. Good luck with the Faery Ring. You can do it! You can do it!
YAY! I’m extremely jealous of your iPhone. I’m stuck with my DroidX until March of next year. You will love it! I’m very curious to see which apps are your favorite for organizing. I use my iTouch around the house and have a few favorites.
Congrats on your new phone!
My fav apps include Flixster for local movie times; Overdrive for eBooks from my library; StarWalk for identifying constellations and it’s designed to be held up to the sky while you stargaze; Kindle Reader for the iPhone; NetFlix for streaming movies while I travel; Pandora radio; Sudoku by Mighty Mighty Good Games; Free Wi-Fi, a finder of free WiFi hotspots; SplashID for storing passwords in an encrypted file.
For distraction and productivity impairment: Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons, and Paper Toss are my favorites.
My phone is a dinosaur which makes phone calls, sends texts, takes lousy pictures, and nothing else. I am constantly amazed by my daughters little iPhone. We were in the grocery and there was music going that she knew but couldn’t place. She let her phone listen to it, and it told her what the song was – and even who the singer was. I couldn’t believe it. I am a dinosaur too, so I hadn’t heard of the song at all.
I like Gasbuddy and Urbanspoon too. The app to identify music is Shazam, but I only got 5 lookups before I had to upgrade to the paid version
My phone makes calls and takes bad pictures. 😀
But! I do have an app recommendation – the Evernote client, which is free. I could NOT live without Evernote. So, so, so handy. The free plan for Evernote has plenty of storage for me.
If you want to get knitting done during May, DO NOT get the “Angry Birds” app!!! SERIOUSLY. But if you want what I think is the best i-whatever game app on the planet, it’s has to be “Angry Birds.”
So pay your money and take your choice: Knit and get something done, or have more fun than you ever imagined with “Angry Birds.” Me? As much as I love knitting, NO ONE is taking my “Angry Birds” away from me!!
I don’t have an iPhone, but I do drool so much over my son’s iPad that he said he may buy me one for his birthday (you read that right). He played Angry Birds for a while, but he seems more hooked on the app for Scrabble (which I think is an iPod app too). I think the real reason for his burst of generosity is that he thinks I’ll stop subscribing to paper newspapers and read them only on the iPad (and hence reduce some of the clutter that seems to trail me wherever I go). I know that VK has some apps, and there was a Rav thread on favorite knitting apps not long ago.
Congrats on your new iPhone. I just got one too. When it rings I just sit there wondering what that sound is. I’d like advice on apps, too.
Maybe there’s an app for that…..
Goodreader for iPhone is a great app. You can actually allow it to wirelessly access your Ravelry library to import patterns in pdf format even if you’re not at home. A good thing if you are travelling and forgot to pack the pattern.
Oh, those iPhones are dangerous! Glad you’re having fun, though. 🙂 What’s the next step with that nice, clean fibre?
Love the goals for May! As for the iPhone, I feel your pain, as I have watched many of my peers fall victim to the charms….LOVE the Faery swater…..
I love Hidden Object games – I have several for my iPhone & my brand new iPad 2. But my absolute favorite thing? It’s the iBooks app. You can store PDFs in it. So that is where I keep patterns I plan to knit. It is perfect for someone like me who is always mislaying patterns. I don’t mislay my phone (well not often anyway). I also have a few knitting apps including a row counter which I also use to keep track of laps walked at the health club (14= a mile & I listen to knitting podcasts while working out. It is even better on the iPad with the bigger screen. And then there is Netflix & HBO-GO.
