I have to say, it’s good to be home. Even with work, and chores, and no rum drinks, it’s always nice to get back home. Hawaii was lovely, but so is where I live.
I’m madly trying to finish up a few things before the Ravellenic games begin, coinciding with the start of the Winter Olympics. I almost decided not to participate this year. The original 2014 Ravelry group for the knitting version of the Olympics blew up rather spectacularly in mid January. It always amazes me how a bunch of apparently intelligent adults can act like such spoiled middle schoolers. Admittedly I didn’t read the whole gazillion-pages-long drama, but I can’t imagine people acting like this in real life.
Anyway, I’m pretty much going to be knitting WIPs during the Olympics. I want to try to get as much of that Evenstar border done as possible, and as a reward, I might just cast on something new. We’ll see. I have Color Affection in my sights for the next big thing.
And a dilemma. I have yarn in two separate color combos that I bought for this pattern. Here they are:
That’s option 1. It’s Swan’s Island Merino. Cream, Oatmeal, and Garnet.
Here’s Option 2:
Those three are Verdant Gryphon Eidos sock yarn. Jade Emperor, Medusa, and Wen Chang.
Decisions, decisions. I’ll do both eventually, but which first? Any votes?
In other news, I’m working away at my newest shawl. Never mind that I should be working away at one of my ancient WIPS. I’m all about new and shiny.
I figure I’m about 40% done with this. I’m hoping to have this finished by the time the Olympics start. A nice long football game tomorrow might help.*
Last but definitely not least, I’m still on that Cold Sheep plan. 112 days without yarn buying. I got a lovely email out of the blue from the Three Irish Girls yarn people. I used to be in her sock yarn club, but quit after awhile when it was apparent that her plan of sending me yarn for a new pair of socks every month didn’t match up with my plan of knitting two pairs of socks a year.
Anyway, I followed the links to her website. Pretty! New colors that I don’t have! Wow!
Then it occurred to me that I probably still have some Three Irish Girls club sock yarn in the stash. Here is a screenshot of that page in the Bento Database That Never Lies. Click to get your Three Irish Girls fix.
Enough Three Irish Girls yarn for 23 pairs of socks, as well as over a thousand yarns of that pretty wine colored stuff in the upper right, destined for a shawl.
Whew. That was close.
*Go ‘Hawks!
I vote for option 1. You are currently knitting a green shawl, so go red for the next one.
No surprise here – I love blue and vote for the blue/green combo. I was going to do the Ravellenics but have decided not to. But now I have to go check out the group. I do love me some good drama as long as I’m not involved!
I would choose the second option first.
I’m looking forward to the Super Bowl. I have no real connection to either team, but I like to see what happens. (And of course the commercials.)
I’m like you with the Ravellenics. I’m doing a WIP and hopefully it will become an FO for real …
I vote for doing the Swans Island combo first – love the Color Affection shawl!
I like option one the best. I also love that skein of Three Irish Girls in the top left corner. That is so pretty.
I chose not to participate in the Ravellenics because I’m recovering from carpal tunnel surgery. Won’t be able to knit until after a short PT stint once I get my stitches out…maybe another month? And after you talking about the melodrama that immature adults can create, I am glad I am not participating.
On the CA shawl, do the 2nd group first…you need some color in the dreary winter.
Go Hawks! (I’ve been a fan for over 35 years!)
I love option one; however, both will make a lovely finished wrap. I am aiming at picking up and finishing my 198 yards…..started over two years ago…..I have never participated in the ROs…..simply amazed at the pages of stuff I read before I chose to ignore it all…..people can be so silly….
I like the option 1 choice for the color affection. I do like the shawl in green that you’re working on as well. I’m addicted to lace knitting. As always Lewey’s little face made me smile!!
I’ve loved Color Affection for ages, but have the same problem you’re having – color selection! While I love blues and green, I vote for the red option! Why is it so much easier helping someone else choose a color?
As a long-time Patriots fan and lover of New England, congratulations to your Sea Hawks – they’re were incredible!
I’m almost finished my husband’s OFP…maybe for Valentine’s Day (I originally hoped for Christmas!)??!! How about you? Are you still “stockinetting” away? I can’t wait to get this one off my needles!
Congratulations on the Super Bowl win! Dreadful game, but I know you’re happy nonetheless.
I’ve made four Color Affections. Fun knit and the results are great. I think the green/blue/silver would look gorgeous.
After yesterday’s game, I would go with the option 2. Oh, who am I kidding, I don’t wear red, so I would always go with option 2.
Loved the Seahawks winning yesterday, but I really expected a better football game. My son is a HS center, so I knew right away Denver was not in the zone yesterday. Too bad, could have been a really good game.
Way to go avoiding temptation! You have lots of pretty yarns already.
I vote for option 2 cause it is springy.
I have never done Ravellenics…might do it this year just to finish a cardi I started last spring…
I’ve been staring at Color Affections for a long time–it is so lovely. I guess I’d vote for the Swans Island trio, being as how I favor reds. I don’t have any of that yarn in my stash. It has been a close call on a few occasions, though.
Your Seahawks had quite a win.
I like option 2. Wish I had one on my needles.
I say Option #1 with the red. I just like it, no other reason.
So are you missing Hawaii even more now after the snowpocalypse? 🙂
No vote here, I can hardly make my own decisions like that LOL. Looking forward to seeing the shawl.
