Still Working On It

This is the never-ending knitting project, but I am nearing the end of this monstrosity.

I have “only” nine repeats of the edging chart to go. Each repeat has 20 rows, 370 stitches, and 50 beads.

Sigh.

In other news, yesterday was a momentous day. It was my last day of working full time. On Monday I start working just 4 days a week. Of course, in a blast of karma from the universe, I developed a case of food poisoning from a “free” lunch on Thursday, and ended up calling in sick yesterday. All is well today though, and I am certainly going to enjoy this tiny first step towards retirement.

Maybe with that extra day each week, I can begin to make a dent in the 211 MILES of yarn in my stash.

  1. The shawl is a work of art! Sorry about the food poisoning…get better! And really, a 211 mile trip is not that far…

  2. Whoa, that is a LOT of yarn. I thought my 21 miles was a lot. But what a gorgeous shawl! And congrats on that first step toward retirement. Speaking from the other side of that fence, it is great 🙂

  3. Your shawl is amazing! I have dreams of knitting something like this someday (but in a fingering weight instead).

  4. Full time to part time is a step toward retirement ONLY if you change your phone number and never/ever/ever answer the phone or pitch in “on your days off.” The assumption from your colleagues is that you are going to be more available for last minute help, switches and swaps.
Just forewarning so you don’t wind up working more hours than you are now.

(working remotely is good – in fact it is great…..

  5. Your shawl is gorgeous. Can’t wait to see it finished! Good for you taking your first step towards retirement-it is really WONDERUL!!

  6. I admire your ability to start, and stick with, a project that big! Good to hear you’re feeling better. Enjoy your extra day!

  7. I found your blog after not reading it for awhile. What a spectacular shawl! And congratulations on not purchasing yarn for more than a year. I need to do the same thing!

  8. I’m going to make a note not to knit that one. I’ll live it variously through you. Working four days per week was what got me through the last bit until retirement. Good strategy 😉

  9. Oh, that is so gorgeous! The end does get very long and feels sloggy, but that is going to be so worth it. You can do it!

I’m rearranging my little home “office” to be an office/craft room, and one of my friends was stunned to see all the yarn I have, now that it’s visible. (And it isn’t even all sorted out yet.) Though she isn’t a knitter, which I tell myself makes a difference in understanding such things.
