I have been knitting socks almost since I learned to knit almost 20 years ago. Since then, I always have a sock in progress, as soon as I finish a pair, I cast on another one.
My finished sock stash is starting to show its age a bit. I still have a dozen plus good pairs, but some of those are getting a bit thin in places. My hand knit socks far outlast commercial socks, but they don’t last forever.
I’m hereby declaring 2018 to be the year of sock knitting. God knows I have sock yarn to spare. I have yarn in those boxes upstairs to knit well over 200 pairs of socks.
Here’s what I am working on now.*
I’m thinking I could finish those with a couple of good football games on deck.
What about you all? What are your knitting plans for 2018?
*Just because someone almost always asks, the small red spool is Wooly Nylon. I use it as reinforcing thread for heels and toes.
My knitting goal is pretty much the same every year now: a pair of socks every month. I usually don’t make it but it’s fun while it lasts. One year my goal was to improve my knitting skills so I did all sorts of stuff, including learning to knit socks. The socks stuck and, like you, I always have a pair on the needles.
So for the heel you just add the Wooly Nylon in with the regular yarn like holding two strands together, right? I am wanting to make my heels stronger & you are the first person my anxious mind is comfortable asking, lol. Thanks in advance.
Those are pretty socks! I tried this year to do a pair a month, and nearly got there. I want to try again in 2018. One of my plans is to use patterns from some of the books I have – why own them if I never use the patterns?
I knit lots of socks. And I darn mine when they get thin. Darning is an art all its own. And you get a like new pair of socks for a half hour of work. It’s easier to darn before they wear all the way through.
That looks like German yarn I’ve used in the same color. Lady Bugs (Mai Kafer) was the translation of the particular color, and now I can’t think of the company name. If it is the same that yarn wears like ‘iron’. lol
