Call For Help

Remember this photo?

That’s my Birch shawl, with a big honking hole that I found last fall. I stuck the pin in it until I could muster up the nerve to fix the thing. It’s been in a heap ever since.

The thing is, I don’t have any of the Kidsilk Haze left. I know I had some leftover, I must have tossed it out in a fit of pique, being quite done with KSH at the time. I could probably do a real half-assed job without extra yarn, but I spent so much time on this sucker that I’d like to try to really fix it.

Which is where the Call For Help comes in. I’m hauling out the Knit Signal.

Does anybody have some of this yarn in their stash that they would be willing to part with? It’s Kidsilk Haze, by Rowan, in the color Liqueur, a very deep nail-lacquer red. I don’t have the dyelot number (if I’d saved the fracking yarn, I’d know the dyelot, now, wouldn’t I?), but at this point I’m willing to give anything a shot. I probably don’t need more than a few yards, so if you have a bit leftover, I’d love to have it.

In return, I’ll go shopping in my stash (a deep, extensive stash, I might point out) for a little something to compensate you. If you are the one who has the KSH in your stash, I’ll even let you pick the category: something for a scarf, or a hat, or perhaps a pair of socks.

Call it a blog contest. First one to say they can send me that yarn in the right color wins.

Added later:

I knew I could count on you guys. I have multiple offers of KSH, so I should be all set. Thanks!

  1. I know I have it from a shawl I made a while back. I’ll look through my stash today and let you know if I find it.

  2. Is there such a thing as TOO MUCH “rescue” yarn? I have some I can send you also. It would be no trouble to stick in an envelope and mail to you.

  3. It’s sooooo gorgeous, I’m glad you’re gonna fix it! I’ll be with ya virtually 🙂

  4. Yay! The Knit Signal did the trick. Lots of great people out there ready to answer the call.
I’m glad you will be able to fix that beautiful piece of work!

  5. It seems that some help is on the way. But could you have reduced the shawl by one pattern (by frogging), refinished the bottom, and taken the yarn from that to make the repair? This is hardly ideal, but it would save the project. It’s too beautiful to let languish.

  6. I have a hard enough time fixing a sweater. When you showed me that hole I just hit the panic button. If you can fix lace then you are my hero. The idea of that just leaves me with a whole (or should I say “hole”) lot of fear and tremblin’!

  7. Oh my. Lovely, lovely shawl. Ugly, ugly hole. I am working on the Shaped Triangle shawl from Gathering of Lace (that was started in 2002!!) and yesterday I noticed a hole at the very beginning of the shawl. I had used a pin to hold the little ball of the yarn tail from casting on. Bad mistake. The pin caused a yarn strand to break, and thehole wasn’t as big as yours when I noticed. Luckily, I had the tail to use in making the repair. How wonderful it is that you have a big readership and someone has some of the yarn!!! Have “fun” fixing it. You will have a feeling of great power and satisfaction when you are done, even if you don’t achieve perfection!

  8. Thanks for your commiseration. Yes, I thought about a fire in the back yard, but outdoor fires are forbidden–of course, I could have cooked it to charcoal in the Weber grill!! But, I persevered and I think I have the solution. Won’t know until I block the baby. I plan to wear it proudly to knitting camp on July 5, regardless of theheat.

  9. I’m not glad that YOU had a hole in your lace shawl, but I confess to being a bit relieved to see someone else dealing with the lace/hole business. I thought it was just me being exceedingly careless, but now I think our pretty lace garments are just magnets for something to catch on. Good luck with the repair.

  10. Glad someone came to the rescue! I’m still laughing about the “Knit Signal” hee hee that’s hilarious:) Can’t wait to see your shawl all fixed and ready to wear.
