Resolutions

OK, I really didn’t mean to go two weeks without blogging again. That was one of my New Year’s resolutions. This doesn’t bode well, does it? Here are a few of the rest of them. These are not in any particular order.

Blog more. There, I said it. Maybe I’ll do better at it now that I’ve put it in writing.

Knit more. Knit faster. Use up more stash. I’d be embarrassed to die now; the people going through my stash would think that I was a lunatic.

Complain about work less. I have a relatively secure job, one that pays well. It funds far more than the yarn budget, not a small thing in this economy. Quit your whining.

Read more books. I signed up for the 52 Books in 52 Weeks challenge on Ravelry. I have no hope of actually completing this one, since I tend to pick huge books that take me weeks to read. The two books I’m in the process of reading now? One has close to 800 pages, the other has 900. I’ve decided to just keep track of the number of pages I’ve read through the year.

I even made a new blog page to keep track of the books. The link is over there in the sidebar. We’ll see how long that lasts.

Oh, and the 900 page book?

That’s where we are this week. We’re on Maui, and having a fabulous time. My laptop computer has a little weather icon that shows the temperature back home. It’s 38 degrees this morning at home. It’s much, much nicer here! Here are a few photos to prove that we’re having fun, another of my NY resolutions.

We picked this spot on a drive around northwest Maui to return for a picnic later in the week.

Rum drinks:

Knitting by the pool. I’ll show a photo of that Peacock Shawl yarn next time I get the camera out. It looks exactly like the colors of a tidepool. Oh, the drink in this one was vodka, not rum. Nothing like a little vodka tonic to get you going in the morning.

Sunset on the beach. Is anybody but me humming the song “Red Sails In The Sunset”?

More rum drinks, this time at a luau.

Yet more rum.

Yes, those photos prove that plenty of rum drinks have been consumed. There is nothing better than going someplace on vacation where they put little umbrellas in your drinks!

  1. Hawaii sounds and looks lovely! Especially since it’s bitterly cold here. Maybe you should be doing the Chunkster Challenge instead of 52 books… 😉 I actually started Michener’s book, but I never got past the lava trickling out onto the floor of the Pacific!

  2. I joined the same Ravelry group. My current 900 page book is “A Woman of Substance” by Barbara Taylor Bradford. I thought about asking if we could count long books like that as two.

  3. Ooooooooooh I miss Hawaii.. if I could move there I would! sure you didn’t need a sherpa?? Well .. keep it in mind for next time! And ask for a lava drink. heheh they are good!

  4. Resolution:
    Drink More Rum!
And I third the Chunkster Challenge. It seems more your idiom! Challenge yourself to read MORE and THICKER books!
-22 this morning here, as per my blog post….that’s sans wind chill. Enjoy Maui!

  5. that’s one of my best memories of Maui (though not my only one…really!) – the drinks with 3 kinds of rum, 2 kinds of fruit, and an umbrella.
it was foggy (?) and 40F here in Seattle at 4pm and now at 5 it is pitch black. Not that I’m jealous.

  6. Ok, so if you die and John lets me rummage through your stash, I promise not to think you’re a lunatic! Deal?? Honest, I’m the only one you can really trust. I am beyond jealous. Maui is one of my favorite places. I have read the book Hawaii THREE times! Really.

  7. looks like you guys are having a great time! I like your resolutions. You are better than me with that… I don’t even try to make resolutions… I never keep them. One thing I am trying this year is 100 books in 2009. (Yeah, right…) I am sure I will come no where close! LOL! But it will be fun to try!!!

  8. What a wonderful vacation! The drinks match the setting, even if they don’t match the knitting. Think of us here in single digits, and revel in your weather!

  9. I go more than 1 book per week. How: Audiobooks! they are a wonder, free downloads from the local libraries, you can rip CDs too. For book tracking: http://www.goodreads.com/
I had a hard time keeping track of the read/to read and if I liked the book/author etc. I found the website through a fellow blogger. It is a readers site come true. You can add books from the LibraryThing, Amazon and just about any database.
Head on over there and add me to your friends 🙂

  10. Sitting here in flannel PJs with a blanket tightly wrapped around me from my armpits down, sipping on hot coffee with the furnace blowing away, my icy fingers going numb and I live in the Deep South.
Ah, to be warm on the beach in Maui. You lucky knitter you! Enjoyu

  11. It all sounds good to me! Especially the little umbrellas – is it true that drinks with little umbrellas don’t make you drunk? 😉

  12. I enjoyed looking at those pictures, after enduring the coldest day we’ve had so far. (One plus was that the swimming pool was empty–not many other lunatic lap swimmers wanted to leap into a pool of cold water today.)
Even though “Hawaii” is long, it goes very quickly. I read it when it was a best-seller (I’ll leave you to figure out how long ago that was from the copyright date), and I just barreled through it. The movie with Julie Andrews doesn’t do it justice, by the way.
I’ll look forward to the increased blog posts.

  13. wow…you are so ambitious! Hey, don’t you love your count down on the side…can you believe the day is coming? Love your HA pictures! Good luck on your reading 😉 and I agree…same with me no need to complain…in these times we do have a lot to be thankful for. The mad money is still there..so NO complaining!

  14. Hawaii is one of my all-time favorites, and one of the few I’ve ever read several times. Stop worrying about finishing, and just enjoy the wonderful storytelling. I can’t remember the plot of the book I finished 3 weeks ago, but I remember all the plotlines of Hawaii. Oh my goodness, I may have to read it yet again, it was so good. And enjoy the island too. Lucky lucky lucky!!

  15. Oh I am so jealous. I would love to be somewhere warm right now. Anywhere. Although Hawaii would probably be my top pick. Have fun! Oh and have a drink for me too!

  16. Hawaii looks great! What wonderful pictures. I am impressed at your attempting to read a book a week. I am happy if I get a book finsihed for my monthly book club. I am always torn between do I knit a few more rounds or do I read another chapter. I think I might need to try books on tape!

  17. Yummm, rum drinks at a luau and knitting in splendor. I’d say you are having a great new year. I will live vicariously through you. We just are coming out of a week of below zero temps each day. Brrrr! Have fun reading! I try to get books on tape/CD so I can knit while reading.

  18. You should learn how to make a hawaiian knitted lei for your hat. Some of them are stunning!!!! Don’t forget to tour the Hana road……

  19. looks like you had a lovely time on Maui !
And I had a good laugh at your stash comment – maybe we need to add a clause to our wills about who gets the stash!
