Yes, I’m Alive…

It’s just November, during the month when all the NaBloPoMo people have promised to write a blog post every single day, and I’ve been working on my NaNoWriMo project. I’m going to have to do some serious writing to actually finish this year, which doesn’t leave much time for blogging, knitting, or actually anything else. I thought I’d take a break and check in though, just so you didn’t think I died or something.

We had a great Thanksgiving at the Knitting Doctor household, though it escapes me why my husband went out and bought 20 pounds of turkey when we only had 8 people to eat it. (And two small children, who didn’t eat any turkey. Slackers.) I’ve already had my allotted quota of turkey sandwiches, and I’ve made a fine turkey stock with the carcass. Tonight will be turkey soup, then that’s it for the year. I’m done with turkey.

Here’s where I am with the knitting projects. They are mostly the same knitting projects, and I haven’t made much progress, due to all the frantic novel writing I’ve been doing.

First, John’s grey Peace Fleece sweater:

Actually, looking at that, I have made progress. Since the last photo I showed, I finished the back, and I’m almost to the armhole shaping on the front. I still love this yarn, even if it’s sort of…plain. And grey, very grey.

Next is the Langsjal JΓ³hΓΆnnu. I have done a few rows here and there on this one. I’m anxious to finish this, as I have many, many more lace shawl and stole patterns and yarns that I would love to get to work on.

I have indeed been tempted to cast on other things, but have resisted the siren song of all that yarn over there in the bags and boxes behind me. After Nano writing is over, I plan to get all gung ho about this one and just finish it. It’s starting to feel a little like an albatross.

Then there is my newest sock in progress:

That’s Madeline Tosh sock yarn, in the color Amaranth. It really is that bright, and then some. I adore this yarn.

You might be asking what happened to the last sock I was working on, the one where I never showed finished photos. That’s because it’s not finished. Here it is.

It’s in a time-out to beat all time-outs. Why, you might ask? I love the yarn (Crown Mountain Farms Sock Hop), I love the color (Spirit In The Sky), I love the striping, and I even love the needles. There’s one small problem, I can’t seem to find the other hank of this yarn. I know for a fact that I had two, which would be enough for two socks. As I rounded the heel and headed for the toe, I figured I’d get out the second ball so I’d have it ready. Nope. Can’t find it anywhere. And indeed I have looked everywhere. I may just finish this one anyway, though that seems rather hopeful, given that I’ve already torn the house up looking. I took it to Idaho when we went in September, so I’m betting it got lost along the way. Someday I’ll rip it out and knit a pair of children’s socks out of it, but I’m equally certain that as soon as I do, the other ball will show up.

You can all clearly see that I have two balls of the Amaranth yarn up there, for two socks. I’m planning on keeping the two of them together until I need the second one.

Last but not least, a couple photos of Willie, just because he happened to be hanging around when I sat down to download the camera photos.

Go ahead, tell him what a handsome boy he is.

I’m going back to writing. Wish me luck, there are only 6 days left, counting today.

  1. Good luck..I could not do it. THERE…I said it (with my head down) now, what I’ve started to write I want to continue on and that is very encouraging to me- so I did get something out of it this year. Had to click on the cat picture to see how wide the rail was she was walking on…ever fell off? yikes. I’m just amazed of all you do with your work, your knitting , & the nanowrimo!!! Keep going and I’ll keep enjoying your progress on all πŸ˜‰

  2. Yup, handsome boy. And you GO on the writing. Much better than daily blog posting, from a personal satisfaction standpoint.
I hate when I lose yarn. HATE.

  3. Keep it up. You’re almost there. And I’m betting it’s GOOD. Hey, Will, my own Lucky Kitty, an absolutely gorgeous dark mottled black and yellow girlie with pearly white whiskers, is purring over my shoulder looking at your photo. She’s been fixed, but in the companionship department, is still most capable.

  4. mush on dear writer ! you can do it!
glad to hear that you have been busy on your book πŸ™‚ maybe next year, I’ll only be working one job and can join in πŸ™‚
oh my – so sorry that you only have one skein of Spirit in the Sky….. I would offer some, but I never even got any of this myself (pout)
Your current WIP’s look great – and I think you have made LOTS of progress on the grey grey grey sweater since last I saw you. Hope your holidays are wonderful. Maybe you and I can come up for air after the New Year and get together down here?

  5. I know you’re alive cause I read your comments on KRIS’ blog! You haven’t visited MY neighborhood in a while πŸ™
What a bummer about the lost yarn! Since the Sock Hop yarn is kinda organic in its patterning and since you have enough to finish sock #1, why not write to Teyani and see if she can hook you up with a matching skein. I would think a “close enough” match would be better than ripping the whole sock! Besides, getting a new skein will coax the lost one out of hiding and you can use the new one to knit some kid socks!
My Willie, what a handsome kitty man you are! πŸ™‚

  6. Mush on with the novel…I’m so far behind, but plan to pour it on the next two days to get it done…..I love the WIP’s, and you will locate the missing yarn after the novel is done!
Tell Willie that he his quite handsome!

  7. The stole is beautiful.
I’m jealous of the Madelinetosh. I was in the process of getting their yarn in the shop and right as I’m placing my order she decided she couldn’t take another online shop as a client. DRAT! I was THIS close and the yarn is so yummy!
    Oh well……

  8. Keep going, we’re almost there, almost there. The free flow of words left me, but I am still pounding them out one at a time, you can do it!

  9. Gorgeous black kitty! I have a soft spot for Halloween cats.
Maybe the yarn is in the car? Or in your office? I found some yarn and needles in my office desk drawer last week, with absolutely no memory of putting them there. (It was crummy acrylic, so it wasn’t that great a discovery, but you never know what you might find.)

  10. I swear, Willie is Grady’s long-lost brother!
That orange sock is outstanding–mojo sent out west for the reappearance of the second skein!!

  11. Good luck with your writing!
We had 18 people for Thanksgiving and a 20 lb turkey. Last year, we had very little leftover, so my parents decided to cook a second 20lb turkey for sandwiches and such. It lasted maybe two days, it boggles the mind!
Though we do have 4 guys in the house and they are pigs. πŸ˜‰

  12. Good luck with the writing! And finding that sock yarn:) If you rip out the sock or buy a new hank, that will surely make the lost one show up. Nice knitting going on there! And Willie is indeed, a handsome feline!
