Sock yarn blankie

I think I posted about this one, but I think it got trash-canned in the Great Blog Deletion of 2020. I have a bunch of leftovers from socks I’ve made, along with a bunch of sock yarn mini skeins that I bought a long time ago thinking I was going to make one of those ridiculous “hexipuff” blankets.

This is much easier.

Mitered squares! They are somewhat insanely addictive to knit. And it’s not like I don’t have sock yarn around here. And time to knit, at least while I’m not at work.

And yes, I am weaving in the ends every few squares so I don’t have a huge mess to deal with.

In troubled times, it is comforting to have an easy, yet satisfying project to knit. The only decision to make is which color I’ll pick up next.

  1. Lorette – you are spot on. These mitered squares are addicting! I’ve got a few mitered square blankets going on at the same time. I have to alternate between the fingering weight and the bulky blanket to give my fingers, arms, and shoulders a rest from the US Size 2 needles.

Great idea about weaving in the loose ends every few squares. That keeps it manageable. Xx

  2. For a split second, I thought, “Cool idea, with the 3-D sock monkey square!” (I’ve been sick — cut me some slack.)

  3. How many stitches are you casting on?? I knit 2 socks on 2 circs all the time so I have 2 small balls of all of the socks I have knitted….! don’t ask…it’s a LOT!! but pls tell me how big your squares are….comfort knitting, much like comfort food, only calorie FREE and meditative!! Thanks for the inspiration.

  4. I have 45 squares so far, and I really enjoy working on mine. But you’re right – weave in those ends now so they are not all there at the end!
